Your Body was Designed to Detox

Your body was designed to detox itself, but what happens when your toxic burden is more than your body can handle?

A toxin is anything that is harmful to the body, especially on a cellular level. Toxins come in many different forms and can be found in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and the products we clean our bodies and our homes with. I’m sure I don’t need to convince you that our world is full of harmful toxins that we are exposed to every day.

We have specific organs and systems that get rid of the toxins that build up in our bodies. Our liver, kidneys, skin, lungs, lymphatic system, circulatory system, and digestive systems all play a role in keeping our body clean. Within these large systems and organs, we also have microscopic warriors that help us detox. One of these warriors, called Glutathione (“gloot-a-thigh-own”) is actually the most powerful detoxifying chemical we have to help us detoxify.

Guess what? Your body actually produces its own glutathione. Glutathione gets its power from the chemical groups of sulfur that it contains. Sulfur is a sticky molecule that acts sort of like flypaper, attracting all the bad stuff that accumulates in the body, like toxins, free radicals, and heavy metals. Pollutants in our environment, poor dietary choices, infections, and stress can sometimes give us too many toxins to handle and actually begin to deplete our glutathione production.

Don’t worry all hope is not lost, we can actually revive these little warriors by doing things that will boost their production.

4 Simple Tips to Help your Body Detox

1. Participate in a nutrient rich detox diet. Start by including organic foods that help your body make glutathione

  • Carrots
  • Tomatoes
  • Grapefruit
  • Cabbage
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Spinach
  • Garlic
  • Walnuts

2. Participate in Moderate Exercise. Simple exercise like walking will boost your glutathione levels, your immune system, stimulate your lymph system, and your mood.

3. Spice Up Your Life. The spices turmeric, cardamom, and cinnamon all aid in detoxifying the body. Try Tammie’s amazing Detox Booster Tea. It is a mild, but helpful dexter that you can drink every day!

4. Reduce the levels of stress in your life. Do something every day that you love; read a book, practice yoga, doodle, talk to a friend, etc.
