Hello friends!

Welcome to today’s episode of the Simple 7 Lifestyle Podcast. Congratulations on taking some of your free time today to invest in making your life better.

As I’m recording this episode we are in the middle of the NBA Finals so I’m starting this podcast with a quote from the GOAT, Michael Jordan. He was quoted as saying, “A coach is someone who sees beyond your limitations and guides you to greatness.”

Everyone needs a coach. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a basketball player, a tennis player, a corporate executive, an entrepreneur, or a homeschooling mom.

Even the best of the best in every field of endeavor is limited by their own visual blinders. In order to change ourselves we need to surround ourselves with support. We often need friends who can be our cheerleaders or our teammates but most of all, we need a coach who can pull the best out of us. Someone who has walked the road themselves and is now dedicated to helping you see your own path through the growth process.

I’m sure that you’re noticing that the coaching industry is booming right now. You’re probably seeing lots of people who are becoming health coaches, relationship coaches, career coaches, high-performance coaches, and life coaches.

All estimates suggest that these specialty coaching professions are going to continue to grow over the next decade.

There are definitely some challenges that come along with this explosion in the coaching industry – namely that the industry is a bit like the wild west and there are wide differences in the level of expertise and education required for someone to call themself a coach, these issues are beyond the scope of this episode.

Instead, in this episode I want to focus on a few of the benefits that a good coach can provide to help you unleash your potential and get the most out of your life and to encourage you to evaluate where you could use the expertise of a coach to really rock your life.

In my experience working with clients and patients over the past 25 years, I’ve witnessed firsthand how coaching someone through their healing journey has created results that the person simply wouldn’t have achieved without some guidance.

Health Coaching truly can make the difference between success and failure when it comes to lifestyle change. Face it, if a change was easy, people would have already done it. Most areas where we get ourselves stuck require a bit of assistance to get out of. That is a job of a dedicated coach on your side.

As a patient recently shared:

“I loved that in the beginning, while I was making all of these lifestyle changes, I had two incredibly passionate and caring coaches to cheer me on. It was very hard at first but as my body started to adjust to a new way of living, eating, and moving, I started to feel so much better. I sleep better, feel better, think better, and move better all as a result of changing my lifestyle. And I couldn’t have done it without your coaching.”

So today I want to share the 5 major benefits of hiring a coach to help you unleash your potential.

#1: Breaking Through Limiting Beliefs.

Limiting beliefs can hold us back from reaching our full potential. Everyone has limiting beliefs. Most of the time they are completely invisible to us. Just like it is hard to see the lens of the glasses you are wearing, it is hard to see the limiting beliefs that are controlling your life. One of the roles of coaching is to help you identify and overcome these self-imposed limitations. Proven coaching techniques can challenge negative thinking patterns and empower you to step outside your comfort zones. Coaches can help you see the stories that you are telling yourself about how your life is working and encourage you to look critically at each belief so that you can decide if you want to keep that belief or exchange it for something more expansive and abundant.

2: Goal Setting and Accountability:

Setting goals is essential for personal growth, but it’s often challenging to stay motivated and hold ourselves accountable. Coaching provides the structure and support necessary for effective goal setting. A coach can help you clarify your objectives, create actionable plans, and stay committed to achieving your desired outcomes.

3: Nurturing Resilience:

Life is full of setbacks and challenges, but resilience is the key to bouncing back and thriving. A dedicated coach can foster resilience by exploring strategies to help you build emotional strength, develop adaptive thinking, and maintain a positive mindset in the face of adversity. Coaches may have faced similar challenges to those you are experiencing and may have additional perspectives. If not, they may have already coached others with those challenges and witnessed how they have found creative solutions to similar situations. You can borrow others’ success stories.

4: Cultivating Confidence and Self-Esteem:

The natural outcome of successful coaching is an increase in confidence and self-esteem which are crucial for personal and professional success. Coaching can boost self-confidence by helping you recognize and appreciate your strengths. In coaching, we discuss practical techniques for building self-esteem, overcoming self-doubt, and embracing a mindset of self-belief. Coaches remind us that we don’t measure our success against perfection. This will always lead to frustration and discouragement. Instead, we measure our success against our old self. We see the gains we’ve made, not the gap between where we are and our lofty ideal. This creates positivity and self-confidence faster than anything else.

5: Creating a Life of Purpose:

Many individuals seek a deeper sense of purpose and meaning in their lives. Coaches can guide individuals on a journey of self-discovery and help them align their actions with their core values.

I think it is helpful to remember that we’re all on a journey of transformation. The pressures of life work on us to force us to adapt and learn. Some responses to the stresses of life are maladaptive. They cause us to freeze, get stuck in bad patterns, and shrink and retreat inward. This feels like a self-protective response initially but if we get stuck in this pattern, it becomes more and more difficult to break free.

Most of us need to first see how we’re stuck, then we need someone to show us a model of how to move forward. Next comes a helping hand and encouragement for us to believe in ourselves enough to take action. That is followed by the support that we need when we have initial setbacks and challenges. Once we have our feet under us a bit, we gain self-confidence and more courage to move forward on our own and we look for the next area of life where we are underdeveloped.

Rinse and repeat. Before you know it, your entire life can be better. You can feel more fulfilled. More purposeful. Your impact will grow and you’ll affect other’s lives more profoundly. The growth may sometimes feel slow to you, but it is happening nonetheless.

Who knows, maybe you’ll even have the opportunity to turn around and coach the next person who is stuck in the same trap you yourself has gotten out of.

That would be my hope for you today.

Evaluate your life. Are there any dimensions where you are spinning your wheels? How’s your physical health? How about your mental health? What about your marriage or other key relationships? How about your finances or your career? Maybe you need some overall life direction.

Whatever area you see as a priority to address, I’d encourage you to find a coach. Please reach out to me for suggestions. I have a network of coaches that specialize in all of the areas that I don’t have expertise in myself.

Don’t let your life slip by without getting the support you need.

Okay, that’s your invitation for today, now let’s go out and do some good in the world!
