I’m going to let you in a little secret. There are some elements of practicing chiropractic that are really tough. It often feels like an uphill battle. Medicine has a nearly universal acceptance rate. Everybody has completely bought into the idea of drugs and surgery. Dentistry has complete buy in as well. Try to find someone who doesn’t think that they should brush their teeth or go to the dentist if they have a toothache. Ophthalmology, podiatry, physical therapy, psychology, nursing…they are all “accepted”, have insurance company backing and social authority. Chiropractic on the other hand still has only about 10% market penetration and very little insurance parity and we are constantly marginalized by the mainstream medical monopoly and the media.
So why would I put up with the hassle of being outside of the mainstream for the past 16 years, pushing against the oncoming tide of “health” messages that preach better health through pharmaceutical drugs?
Simple.
Because I believe my message is right.
I know that the body is a powerful, self-healing organism.
I know that the nerve system is the primary control system of the body and that spinal misalignment is a massive insult to the nerve system.
I know that the easiest way to correct spinal misalignment is through a specific chiropractic adjustment.
I know of the power of the chiropractic adjustment.
I’ve seen the miracles of healing.
I’ve seen the power that made the body, heal the body.
I’ve seen chiropractic care be a “gateway” that inspires people to take control of their health and their lives and begin to live according to the laws of health that have governed our biology since we’ve been around on this planet.
I know that we all need more than a pamphlet from our doctors about the importance of nutrition, sleep, proper movement, hydration, stress management and emotional health. We need to see these as critical components of the patient’s treatment, not something that only gets “lip service” while they hand out the prescription. Every doctor can do that but it seems that chiropractors are the only ones who are willing to actually do it.
Don’t get me wrong, we still need life-saving medical intervention but heroically saving lives isn’t the same thing as promoting health. Chiropractors are on the front lines of health creation every day. We are constantly trying to stop people from jumping into the river instead of just pulling them out when they are drowning downstream. Our efforts are noble and of tremendous value to humanity and I just wish it was given its due respect.
The world isn’t perfect. Chiropractic isn’t perfect. But I do know that it works!
