Use Vitamin G to Boost your Health.

Science is constantly discovering new benefits  from certain vitamins.  When these  new discoveries are made we are advised to take an additional supplement of eat more of a certain type of food so that we can get these additional benefits.  Did you know that Vitamin G will boost your health?  “Vitamin G” isn’t something you take.  It’s something you give.  Vitamin G is Gratitude, at least that’s what I want to call it.

Isn’t it wonderful that we have a holiday dedicated for gratitude.  A day of thanksgiving that we share with our family and  closest friends.  What if we practiced gratitude daily instead of just during a certain season of the year? That is a question that Robert Emmons, Professor of Psychology asked.  In his research on gratitude he found that, “Grateful people take better care of themselves and engage in more protective health behaviors like regular exercise, a healthy diet, regular physical examinations.”

His study found that giving gratitude not only effected a person spiritually, but mentally and physically.  Cultivating an attitude of thankfulness has also been linked to better immune function, better ability to relax and cope with stressors and even decreased rates of disease.  You can read the complete synopsis of the study here.

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…. It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events.”   Melodie Beatty

Here are some ideas on how to start giving more Vitamin G:

Say Thank You.  Send a thank you note the old fashioned way, by mail!

Keep a gratitude Journal.  Start by writing down 3-5 things this evening that you were thankful for today.

Practice doing acts of kindness.  Always look for ways that you can help those around you, start by looking someone in the eyes and smiling.

The best part of gratitude is that the benefits go both directions whether you are the giver or receiver of gratitude!
